For over twenty years, the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER) has been at the forefront of anti-racism interventions in Scotland.

The opportunity to lead CRER as its new Executive Director is now open to exceptional candidates with the vision to take forward its mission and objectives.

The successful candidate will be passionately committed to the cause of racial equality, with the drive and gravitas to lead this national strategic organisation. They will have both lived and professional experience, plus the strong capabilities needed to ensure CRER builds on its advances through the next stage of striving for a truly anti-racist Scotland.

CRER Executive Director - Job Description:

The Executive Director is the senior role at CRER.

The Executive Director has overall responsibility for CRER's strategic leadership, policy development, office management, staff management, financial control, stakeholder relationships, etc. They will also act as Company Secretary for CRER.

They will ensure that all annual work plans and targets are met, that contractual agreements are adhered to, and that the organisation remains influential, sustainable and effective in improving racial equality in Scotland.

Key Responsibilities:

Overall lead for ensuring delivery of CRER's ambition and work to build an anti-racist Scotland

Strategy, Research and Policy Development

  • Provide strong strategic direction, delivering CRER's vision, aims and objectives of building an anti-racist Scotland
  • Lead on the development and execution of the organisation's strategy and planning with the staff team and Board, including setting of and delivery of CRER's policy, research and advocacy priorities

Governance and Operational Management

  • Act as Company Secretary for CRER, and deal with all OSCR-related compliance
  • Provide guidance, support and information to enable the Board to carry out their duties in an effective manner
  • Draw up annual budgets, ensure sound financial management of the charity's income and expenditure, provide management accounting information and oversee the compilation of annual reports and accounts
  • Maintain the required organisational infrastructure (e.g. IT, premises), ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and health and safety matters, and implement effective risk management procedures
  • Develop successful funding applications and responses to competitive tenders, thereby ensuring the organisation has sufficient income to deliver on its objectives

Staff Leadership and Development

  • Build, develop and provide line-management and leadership to a highly motivated and self-managing team
  • Ensure that the CRER Policies and Procedures Handbook is kept updated and that all policies and procedures are consistently applied across the organisation

Stakeholder Relations and Public Relations

  • Oversee CRER's development and management of external relationships with BME organisations, third sector organisations, Scottish Government ministers and officials, funders, parliamentarians, academia, and other key stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Ensure that CRER is represented in key strategic and policy discussions, and represent the organisation on stakeholder fora and working groups, at public events, and in the media
  • Ensure a positive public profile for CRER, including via the website and on social media

Other duties: Any other duties relevant to the successful functioning of the organisation as required
