Quick Start Guide Published for Equality Act Specific Duties

The government has published a quick start guide intended to help public sector organisations understand the specific duties that support the public sector Equality Duty in the Equality Act.

The Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011 came into force on 10 September 2011.  They require public bodies to publish relevant, proportionate information demonstrating their compliance with the Equality Duty; and to set themselves specific, measurable equality objectives.
The guide clearly states that while public organisations need to consider the impact of their decisions on different groups, this does not mean that organisations are required to carry Equality Impact Assessments.  Many practitioners are left questioning if such an objective can be achieved without conducting an Equality Impact Assessment.
