Law Firms Make Notable Progress on Gender Diversity

Increasing amounts of women have received significant promotions since 2013 in some of the top City firms. With a significant increase recorded in the percentages of females who were awarded promotions in business, equality campaigners are heralding the statistics as great news for a move forward with gender equality.

While only around 20% of business promotions went to women in the firm DAC Beachcroft last year, the figure has increased to more than 50% of the total number of promotions this year. Other firms report similar findings. With 21 promotions being given at Linklaters this year, nine were received by women compared to only 13% last year. The total number of female partners at Linklaters now make up 18% of the company, a rise from 16% in May 2013.

Other companies promoted a similar number of women to the status of partner as they had done the previous year, with female partners usually making up only between 10 and 20 per cent of the total number. The managing partner at DAC Beachcroft, Paul Murray, spoke of his pleasure in being able to reward the skilful and talented staff within the company.
