Hospitality sector aims to smash glass ceiling

Industry leaders within the hospitality sector have decided to form a new specialist foundation to tackle workplace diversity at the top. The sector represents wider society well at grass roots level, but fails to do so at middle and senior hierarchies.

The foundation will be called the "One and All Foundation", they plan to officially launch later this month with a launch event is planned on the 1st of October 2008.  Last year an article from leading industry magazine “En Passant” exposed the paradox of a rich pool of talent not being advanced within the sector. The foundation has enlisted an impressive list of senior figures within the industry to tackle the issue.

The board, to be chaired by Peter Lederer (Chairman of Gleneagles) will also include Andy Kemp (Sales Director, 3663) Chris Sheppardson (Managing Director, Chess Executive) David McHattie (Chief Executive, National Skills Academy) Debrah Dhugga (Former CEO Seaham Hall, Serenity Spas and The Samling) Ian Hall (Former Group Human Resources Director, Gardner Merchant) Michael Caines (Chef and Director, Abode Hotels) Nick Sheppardson (Director, Chess Executive) and Philippa Creswell (New Product Development Director, Virgin Trains)

The foundation believe strongly in the business case for addressing diversity within the Hospitality Industry and cite that if action is not taken soon, the industry will be left alienated by 2020.
