Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Clerk of Works to provide a professional service to the Property Group projects and refurbishments team, with excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels. This is a perfect opportunity for you to develop your career at a critical time for UKAEA and work within a fascinating industry.

You will have substantial knowledge and industry experience of working on large new construction projects, with a focus on health and safety monitoring. You will hold a NEBOSH certificate or possess equal alternative experience/qualifications and will have the ability to write technical reports. A background in new build construction inspection and quality control is key, as is a relevant construction related qualification.

Job Description
The main key areas of responsibility will include:

- Making regular visits to the projects on site, attend daily site meetings and advise the Contract Project Manager (CPM) of difficulties being encountered or likely to be encountered
- Making recommendations about any aspect of the works including quality which does not conform with the plans, specifications or schedules of works
- Monitoring work on site in accordance with the Contractors Method Statements and the Construction Health and Safety Plan, highlighting any breaches with the CPM for any further action
- Maintaining and issuing weekly reports on activity carried out by contractors, including quality issues, resource numbers and safety observations
- Attending pre-contract meetings and ensure that all contract documents and drawings on individual projects for discrepancies
- Monitoring that progress is maintained according to the construction programme and advise on any likely cause for delay to the CPM
- You may be required to work long hours at specific points during the construction process

Qualifications
Essential skills, experience and competences required:

- Substantial experience as Clerk of Works/Supervisor/Trade Foreman, on new and occupied sites
- Demonstrable knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory requirements including CDM Regulations, Asbestos Regulations, Scaffolding Regulations, and Planning and Building Regulations and related compliance requirements
- Knowledge of the NEC form of contract and NEBOSH General Certificate
- A relevant technical qualification in construction related subject and membership of an appropriate institute e.g. Institute of Clerk of Work or equivalent verifiable work-based experience and training
- Ability to undertake site visits and access all parts of building sites including the use of ladders
- Ability to write clear reports and a good attention to detail

Desirable skills, experience and competences:

- Ability to use inspection reporting software such as Field View.
- Knowledge and experience of construction related Common Data Environments.
