Be a part of our Cell Culture & Fermentation Sciences team, a team who together are responsible for generating recombinant proteins and novel drug modalities to support internal projects at all stages of Drug Discovery.

Our team is also responsible for the development of exciting new technologies around rapid protein expression and other therapeutic modalities.

You will play a significant role in supporting the activities around the rapid expression and scale-up of recombinant proteins using in-house protein expression technologies. In addition, you will be involved in the further development and improvement of the latest technologies.

Responsibilities include;

* Recombinant protein production using transient expression systems
* Cell engineering, vector engineering, cell culture and molecular biology
* Plasmid DNA scale-up and purification for routine transfections
* Supporting the general day-to-day laboratory activities within the team and contributing to the technology development activities around the production of novel drug modalities.
* In addition the successful candidate will be expected to;

* Contribute to the plans and designs of experiments and provide general scientific advice on specific topics to the team
* Contribute and support other activities within the team including running bioreactors
* Manage own work to ensure that agreed targets are met in a timely manner and to agreed quality standards, communicating progress appropriately
* Performs relevant experiments and interprets results based on a standard methodology
* Modify or improve processes and systems if necessary, depending on purpose of experiments
* Assess and report data, with little or no guidance, in a clear and concise manner, with a clear understanding of its implications within the overall context of drug development
* Discuss and defend findings of experiments at follow-up meetings, or corresponding forums
* Provide technical instruction to the team and allocate administrative work where possible
* Liaise with local and global colleagues across the business with the purpose of discussing project-related matters, sharing experiences and reporting progress
* Develop own level of competency by reading articles, collaborating with peer scientists or through contacts by other internal groups
* Search for information which may improve research methodology and procedures
* Ensure that work is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards.

You must have experience in:

* Mammalian cell culture and protein expression from eukaryotic cells in an industrial and/or academic environment
* The use of transient expression platform for rapid production of proteins
* The knowledge of molecular / cell biology techniques
* The knowledge of analytical techniques, e.g. SDS PAGE, western blotting

The following experiences will be useful but not essential:

* Experience in gene therapy technologies
* Experience in RNA biology or production
* Experience in stable expression systems working with bioreactor systems for mammalian cell culture
* Education BSc/ MSc in Life Science
