Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager

My client is currently recruiting for a Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager, on a 3 day a week part time basis. My client is a very prestigious University in the heart of the City and a very exciting position as arouse due to continued growth. This role is for someone who wants to be a pivotal part of the HR team and wants to be a part of an esteemed organisation.

The role is to provide strategic and operational HR service that will contribute to the Universities commitment to developing, rewarding and valuing staff. The HR department will support the University's core business through effective HR interventions and implementation of processes which underpin City's research, education and learning and other corporate strategies. The main focus of the role will be to work with the University Equality Committee to lead on the future strategic development (employment) of equality diversity and Inclusion (EDI) within the University, working with all stakeholders to raise awareness and the profile of EDI.

Main Duties:

1. Development and Implementation of HR People Strategy and Equality Strategy
*To contribute to the development and implementation of the People Strategy (with particular reference to equality, diversity and Inclusion) and the Equality Strategy
*To ensure legislative requirements inform the People Strategy and Equality Strategy by advising the HR Director and Equality Committee of any equality implications of proposed strategies and ensuring the requirements of new legislation are included)
*Provide clear communication on strategic equality issues across the University
*Provide secretarial support to the Equality Committee

2. Project Management/Policy Development
*To ensure that good practice is observed across the University through the development and review of policies and procedures in line with current legislation
*To advise and recommend to the HR Director and Equality Committee the communication strategy for the implementation of new policy
*To work out implementation action plans, establish objectives and outcomes through consultation and in agreement with the Director of HR and Equality Committee
*To brief staff on new policy and procedures/guidelines by delivering briefing sessions, composing articles for the staff email bulletin and leaflets etc
*Carry out impact assessments on new policy and procedure and provide advice to staff undertaking impact assessments
*Ensure that stakeholders, TU, sector experts are consulted and involved in the development and implementation of policy;
*Work closely with senior managers to embed the required change in the organisation

3. ECU Equality Charter

*To assist the University and departments in the preparation and the development of applications for the equality charter awards (Athena SWAN and Race Equality Charters) and the implementation of action plans. In particular in line with the action plans assisting with the creation and management of internal structures that will facilitate impactful action at local and University level to meet objectives

5. Employment Law
*Keep up to date with relevant legislation and provide guidance to the University on associated implications
*Attend updating seminars/conferences and Liaise with external bodies e.g. ECU, EHRC
*Advise the University accordingly.

6. Management Information
*Produce statistical analyses and reports as required both for internal and external use in relation to EDI
*Assist in the development of staff equality PIs which advance the promotion of equality and diversity and support and respond to corporate PIs.

7. Advice to Managers and Staff

*Liaise with Managers locally to determine equality-related needs at local and individual level in order to inform corporate provision
*Provide information, advice, guidance and support to Managers and Staff on matters relating to EDI
*Produce guidance notes on EDI related matters
*Set up awareness raising events
*Coordinate and provide support for City's Harassment Adviser Scheme

8. Staff Development

*To assist in the design and deliver of staff development events and interventions where necessary, in conjunction with organisational Development and Heads of Service
*In conjunction with Organisational Development identify staff development requirements in relation to EDI
*Identify and engage appropriate external staff development providers
*Design and deliver workshops

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
Qualifications:
*Relevant degree or equivalent / Equivalent experience
*CIPD membership or equivalent professional qualification
*Desirable - post degree relevant qualification such as related MSc, coaching certification, Prince2
*Strong demonstrable understanding of project management techniques, whether through formal qualification or practice

Skills & Work Ethic:
*An interest in EDI development activities and ability to deal with matters concerning all protected characteristics
*A passion for project management in an EDI context from development to implementation
*Up to date knowledge of equalities legislation relevant to Higher Education
*Strong evidence of business acumen particularly around attention to detail, delivery, professionalism, and empathy
*Strong research and data analysis skills with proven ability to gather and analyse data robustly, questioning assumptions as appropriate
*Ability to multi-task and manage a varied and demanding workload on own initiative and as part of a team; with a particular reference to setting targets, monitoring progress and meeting deadlines
*Excellent networker. Ability to build rapport quickly with a variety of stakeholders, who may be initially sceptical and often will be more senior and/or more experienced than the job holder
*Strong written communicator adept at creating persuasive papers and presentations for a variety of audiences up to UET/ExCo level
*Engaging presenter comfortable with all audiences
*Strong IT skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, experience working with spread sheets and databases).

Knowledge & Experience:
*A career history of successful delivery of EDI projects showing clear tangible delivery of equality objectives and link to Strategic Plans.
*Experience advising, influencing and delivering solutions in a professional unionised environment where the culture is to question and analyse rather than accept decisions at face value.
*Experience of advising, analysing and solving complex EDI problems
*Experience of working with contemporary HR information systems
*Experience of making application and implementing the action plan of the ECU's Equality Charter Awards
*Developed understanding of HE themes and current topics, and a willingness to develop further.
