Then join UEL as Senior Institutional Equity Officer and you could soon be managing a variety of interesting projects and acting as one of our expert sources of equity advice on student and staff matters.

The Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) is the first department of its kind in the UK. It has specific responsibility for addressing inequalities within the institution by creating sustainable cultural changes that will positively impact the University community. Your challenge will be to manage equity projects within the OIE, for example Athena Swan and Race Equality Charter Mark. We’ll also rely on you to review and work collaboratively to action key findings from such projects and devise and implement appropriate ED&I strategies, policies and training to bring about a cultural change across the University. Advising on appropriate equality impact assessments, producing reports and papers on a wide range of ED&I issues and keeping up-to-date with impending changes in the law and best practice, both within the sector and externally – all are aspects of this vital new role.

To succeed, you’ll need In-depth knowledge of equality and diversity issues relating to staff and students, including knowledge of the relevant legislation. You’ll also need experience of researching, applying and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion policies and initiatives and sharing best practice. Excellent project management skills are essential too, as is a proven ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers across an organisation and proactively work with others to achieve team objectives. Experience of planning, prioritising and organising your own work and resources is important too, together with the initiative and creativity to resolve problems by identifying practical and suitable solutions.
