The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a global research and learning organisation for equitable and sustainable change. The Evidence and Knowledge for Development (K4D) programme is an exciting and unusual programme at IDS that provides a bridge between academic experts and people working in donor agencies and government policy and research departments. K4D Research Officers combine thorough subject knowledge, deep understanding of development policy processes, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely. The role offers experience in and exposure to development policy and research at the highest level, and may be of particular interest to those considering a career in policy-based research, development agencies, non-governmental organisations, or consultancy. We are seeking to recruit a highly-motivated Research Officer to help us inform and influence international development policy on disability and inclusion issues in low-and middle-income countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. The ideal candidate would have good knowledge of disability issues and social inclusion in an international development context; familiarity with other aspects of social development including gender, social protection, gender equality and social norms; experience working in or carrying out research in low- or middle-income countries; and extensive practical experience communicating research to policy-makers and practitioners. Our vision is of equal and sustainable societies, locally and globally, where everyone can live secure, fulfilling lives free from poverty and injustice.
