The Organisation

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) sits at the very heart of the Criminal Justice System (CJS), working in partnership with the police, courts, the Attorney General’s Office, the Home Office, the Ministry of Justice and other agencies throughout the CJS.  The CPS prosecutes criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations in England and Wales. The CPS is independent, and we make our decisions independently of the police and government.  We are constantly adapting to the changing nature of crime.  Our vision is to be a leading voice in transforming the Criminal Justice System, using our legal expertise and digital capability to make the public safer and build the confidence of our diverse communities. We have a strong track record in workforce Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and currently have one of the most diverse workforces in the Civil Service, along with what our employees tell us is a supportive and inclusive culture.

The Role

To help us deliver our aspirations on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, we are introducing two new roles to the CPS to support our people and to be visible champions for cultural change at all levels of the organisation. Alongside an independent Speak Out Champion, we are now looking for an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Advocate. This role will build on our strong track record on inclusion in employment and will support a further step-change in the development of our inclusive culture and workplace environment.  Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer (CPO), the post holder will work across corporate functions and with local leadership to identify any issues linked to working practices, behaviours and communication that is inhibiting the development of an inclusive culture. The post-holder will work with the business to identify and implement solutions. As a visible advocate of EDI, and a catalyst for change, this is a critical role which will support the entire organisation as it continues to embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion into all levels of leadership and all areas of practice.

The Person

This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference at an organisational level. You will need to bring a track record of making a tangible difference to the culture of a large and/or complex organisation and be able to demonstrate that you can operate as a trusted advisor at all levels of an organisation. It should go without saying that your passion and deep knowledge of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion work will shine through your application. You will also need to be a persuasive and influential communicator, capable of working across boundaries to provide constructive and strategic challenge, and with a coaching approach, so that our people are able to act on your advice.
