The Role

We are recruiting for an enthusiastic Associate to join the Diversity and Inclusion team within Corporate Responsibility, which is expanding in recognition of the importance of this work.

The Corporate Responsibility (CR) team sits within the Human Resources department of our Operations division and is responsible for the strategic management and delivery of the FCA's aspirations in Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) and Community Engagement. The team collaborates closely with a wide range of FCA stakeholders, both internal and external, to influence the organisation's corporate responsibility culture and strategy.

Under the Equality Act 2010, the FCA is also subject to the public-sector equality duty (PSED), which means we must look for ways to eliminate discrimination, to promote equality of opportunity and foster good relations between groups that share protected characteristics, and those that do not. We apply these considerations both as an employer and in our regulatory approach.

The CR team is the custodian for oversight of our PSED; reporting to EDC on the many areas where it applies and the workstreams in place to help move the dial positively and lead by example.

What does the role involve? What are the key responsibilities?

We are looking for an individual who has a good understanding of regulation and how our PSED applies to our role as a regulator. While they do not need to have held a D&I specialist role previously, they should have a strong interest in D&I and why it is important to the FCA.

To do this the successful candidate will be expected to:

Operationally run the oversight of the FCA's PSED-related activities and outputs. This will involve:
  • Leading a new working level group, involving gathering rationale, progress, and risks to delivery from working level contacts
  • Providing regular six-monthly progress reports to our Executive Diversity Committee on our PSED activity, ensuring appropriate senior management sign off for activities they are responsible for

Manage our Equality Impact Assessment process. This will involve:
  • Reviewing Board and Executive level papers for their equality considerations; to monitor how the thinking has been applied, and to consider where more is needed
  • Overseeing the system for monitoring the outcomes of our equality impact assessments upon our regulatory interventions and how learnings can be shared
  • Leading regular meetings with the Equality Impact Champion group, sharing updates, and organising case studies as needed to continually strengthen learning

Additionally:
  • Work with internal stakeholders on how we can lead by example externally, for example in relation to the expectations we set on our suppliers, and on those who seek FCA speakers
  • Liaise with external stakeholders on our PSED approach - e.g., the Bank of England, UK Regulators Network, and other regulators
  • Work closely with the internal D&I strategy project team, to ensure alignment as part of our approach to embedding
  • Take the lead on a small number of D&I initiatives resulting from the revision of our D&I Strategy
  • Produce briefings for senior leaders as required and manage key messages in relation to our PSED ambitions and progress, to be used internally and externally
  • Presenting to related internal forums/committees periodically as required, such as DIAG, EDC, and the Regulatory D&I project team

  • Gain exposure to a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop and continually strengthen your experience within Corporate Responsibility and D&I in particular
  • Work closely with a small, dynamic team, enabling wide coverage of issues
  • Present to senior leadership through EDC, gaining insight on senior level discussion and decision-making

Skills/Experience Required

Minimum

We're a signatory to the Government's Disability Confident scheme.   • Experience of building positive relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to pick up a new role quickly and apply existing knowledge and skills in a new environment
  • A strong interest in D&I and good understanding of the Public Sector Equality Duty and how it relates to our role as a public body and regulator

Essential

  • Innovative thinking on how best to continually strengthen and deliver on team and organisational ambitions in relation to D&I
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills. This includes the ability to communicate confidently and credibly, both orally and in writing
  • Project management experience
  • Self-motivated and able to take the initiative and demonstrate resourcefulness
  • Excellent presentation skills with experience of delivering to a range of audiences and levels of seniority
  • Highly organised with attention to detail
  • Displays the FCA values, in particular to work inclusively, be ambitious, and connect and deliver

Desirable

  • Experience of using analysis to identify issues, target action and measure progress
  • Experience of presenting to stakeholders at external events/forums

  • The salary range is approximately £42,000 to £55,000 plus a competitive benefits package and non-contributory pension
